Green Lantern (2011)

In brightest day, in blackest night
No evil shall escape my sight
Let those who worship evil's might
Beware my power, Green Lantern's light!

Billions of years ago, a race of immortals harnessed the most powerful force in existence: the emerald energy of willpower. These immortals, the Guardians of the Universe, built a world from where they could watch over all of existence: the planet Oa. They divided the universe into three thousand six hundred sectors, a ring powered by the energy of will was sent to every sector to select a recruit. In order to be chosen by the ring, it is said that one must be without fear. Together these three thousand six hundred recruits formed the intergalactic peacekeepers known as the Green Lantern Corps.
Of all the threats the Corps ever faced gravest was an entity of fear known as Parallax. Only the legendary Green Lantern Abin Sur was capable of capturing and imprisoning this beast, which he did on the lost planet of Ryut.

The movie open in outer space with aliens being killed by Parallax who breaks out from underground. Six months later Parallax attacks a Green Lantern. Abin Sur, and mortally wounds him. He also kills three other guardians.

Meanwhile, back on earth, test pilot Hal Jordan is living a wild life, and he has no fear. Abin Sur lands on earth and wants to give the ring to Hal because the ring has chosen him, and then he dies. Hal tries on the ring and recites the oath before the lantern. When he gets in to a parking light fight the ring does some crazy, stuff but he can't control it. Hal then hurdles in to outer space where he wakes up in a uniform and mask. He meets other protectors. Hal is the first human ever chosen to be a protector. He learns how to master the ring. The rings limits are only what he can imagine. Hal goes through some quick training.

Meanwhile ten Lanterns go after Parallax but uses their own fear to defeat them. Hal has some doubts but as time goes on he becomes more confident, and comes to the realization that he must become responsible, that he must use his power for good. Hal volunteers to go up against Parallax.

Hal faces down the Parallax and saves the universe and his fellow Lanterns honor him as one of their own.

A bit campy and kind of all over the place, but all in all a decent movie, that should have been better.
